WAEC: NEC Approves recommended sanctions for cases of exam malpractice.

The Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has approved recommended sanctions for cases of exam malpractice.

The committee is the highest decision-making organ of WAEC on examination-related matters in Nigeria.

A communique at the end of the recent 62nd meeting of NEC WAEC held in Lagos.

“After diligent deliberations, it approved that the entire results of candidates involved in proven cases, which attract Cancellation of Entire Results (CER) be cancelled, while subject results of those involved in proven cases which attract Cancellation of Subject Results (CSR), be similarly cancelled.

“The committee said further that some candidates would also suffer other sanctions such as barring them from sitting for the Council’s examinations for a certain number of years while some schools will be derecognised, while their principals reported to the ministry of education for disciplinary action while erring supervisors will be blacklisted.

The communique further noted that the recommendations of the committee will be implemented without delay and the affected candidates and schools will be duly notified by the council.

It was also stated that if a school is “warned for aiding and abetting cheating three times within a period of five years, it would be derecognised”.

The committee also resolved that, henceforth, any school that allow candidates to be impersonated during the WASSCE for school candidates will be sanctioned.
